The Ninnescah River starts not far from the Arkansas River, but the terrain keeps it flowing to the southeast (as is the case for most all rivers in Kansas).  The North Fork and the South Fork join together southwest of Wichita into the Ninnescah River, which then meets the Arkansas River near Oxford, Kansas.

I'll be walking around the South Fork about ten miles west of Kingman.  This is fairly flat country, so the river has its own way when making course changes.  That has kept the floodplain free from crops (there'd be no point in risking the inevitable water).

There are no paths to follow, but it's not too hard to find a way through.

The ground is thick with fallen leaves.  I heard rustling noises all around, but never did see any creatures (although I'm sure they saw me).

An old elbow of the river has become a marsh.

A storms is brewing and the wind is picking up.
